Subject: SSI ACT Members - Your MAPS can save lives
Dear SSI Member and interested non-members
Bushfire is the most destructive and life threatening of all the natural disasters that afflict our country. Canberra and the surrounding region is particularly at risk.
Mapping is an essential component of managing bushfire and other emergencies and you could be making those life saving maps.
If you can
-
operate a simple, user-friendly GIS;
-
work with people under potentially stressful conditions; and
-
leave your home and work for a day or two at short notice
then this is your opportunity do something important.
The Mapping and Planning Support team is gearing up for the coming fire season and we need you.
Attached is a document explaining what MAPS is and what would be expected of you. It is not onerous. It can be very satisfying. It is important.
If you are interested in volunteering then come along to an information session at
2.00 pm Saturday 15 December
NSW Rural Fire Service
Lake George Zone headquarters
10 Ellerton Drive
Queanbeyan
If you are interested but cannot attend the information session then email Frank Blanchfield blanchfi@webone.com.au
Membership of MAPS is not restricted to SSI members. If you know a non-member who might like to volunteer please pass on this invitation.
